“Am I A Woman Yet” is a sculptural piece created by Emily Perdue for her Foundational Concepts Class at Old Dominion. The piece emphasizes the struggles of what women face in modern day society. Women are held to an unachievable standard and constantly faced with derogatory names and phrases. Perdue wanted to create a piece that was not only empowering but also eye opening.

Artist Emily Perdue created a sculpture based off her own experience of sexual assault. Perdue casted her body using plaster and fabric is represent her own body and how it felt to no longer have ownership over it. Perdue then used gorilla glued the casted body and mounted it onto the plaque that she made herself out of carving wood. The silver metal at the bottom is engraved to say “RIP to who I used to be." The sculpture is an embodiment of vulnerability when it comes to the feeling of being on display. 

"Why Am I Not Good Enough" is a piece created based off body insecurity. Emily Perdue utilized text messages that she had personally received to demonstrate the impact of body shaming.

"Girl Dinner" is a photographed still life that embodies what it is like to face beauty standards.
